hi
my name is Neil stannard
my family moved to 35 Bentley avenue in janurary 1966
in them days you had to pay your ground rent and hang a big C outside your bungalow or sam the elson toilet man wouldnt empty your elson toilet
my mum my Nan and gran dad all worked in brooklands social club
my gran dad (harry was the pot man
my mum (Joan) and my Nan (Vera) both worked behind the bar and it was not long before my mum met my step dad bill
bill the organist and Harold his drummer used to play at the brooklands
back in them days there was only about a dozen families lived on the brooklands full time most of them were large families
so little me only child had a lot to contend with
and we stuck together
life was hard back then with the elson toilets and stand pipes
and the very frequent power cuts
and i remember having to take a kettle of boiling water to the stand pipe to thaw the frozen tap
in September 1966 i stated school and was one of the first to start the then new jaywick county primary school
now known as Frobisher we all went to school on a big yellow coach at the time yellow submarine was in the charts
so we all went to school singing we all live in a yellow submarine
in 1970 my gran dad died soon to follow was my Nan in 1971
we then moved out and rented the bungalow out
eventually the tenant trashed the place beyond repair
so my mum sold out to the council
when the council came up with the first compulsory purchase
i think was 1974
but i never forgot the life and times in jaywick
in 1990 i moved back to jaywick to bring my kids up
and moved into no:1 sunbeam avenue
and i was well known for my trike until things went sour with my then partner
ive now moved on and live in Kent
i am an entrepreneur and work from home in the import/export trade of custom motorcycle parts
and live between the UK and Cyprus
but i have never forgot where i came from
and never will one day may be i will return with a smile on my face having lived a full and happy life
