A Multi million Pound coastal defence scheme will start in Jaywick by September this year, with work taking place during winter, and finishing by the end of the year. Some beach closures will be needed during the work.
Van Oord a Dutch company that will undertake the works will build a 185 metre offshore breakwater, designed to reduce the force of the waves hitting the coastline using 40,000 tonnes of rock, and recharging the beach with 250,000 cubic metres of sand.
It is hoped that further work on a inland water break that runs alongside the Martello Tower will be reinforced and made flood resistant, that being the inland physical barrier to floodwater to protect Brooklands and Grasslands in the future.
