Its many years since I lived in Jaywick, but I remember a lot of boggy wasteland out the back of Brooklands and next to Grasslands. Not sure if its been devleoped yet.....I have to google earth it and see. Anyway if its not been touched it could bring an asset to the Jaywick community. Allotments are hip again now, with huge waiting lists for plots. Grants are available for new allotment sites if self managed by an association. If this land is still available, some of it could make the Jaywick Community Allotments, where residents could have a plot of their own to grow fruit, flowers, veg and herbs. In these allotments could be an area for Jaywick Community greenhouses or polytunnels, where the community could grow flowers for their gardens, communal areas of Brooklands and Grasslands and maybe even to sell to raise funds for community projects. A Brooklands and Grasslands in Bloom competition could be organised, prizes for best garden, best hanging basket, best container, and so on. The negative thinkers may say something like this wont work and it will be vandalised and become a tip. Well, things like this have worked in inner city and deprived areas in other parts of the country. I'm actually on the management committee of a national allotment organisation so if you want any guidelines, I'd be pleased to help you out.......even if I dont live in Jaywick now.
