Well for those of us who are having problems receiving Freeview terrestrial digital television, and have no wish to further line the pockets of Mr. R. Murdoch and his Sky satelitte system, this site may provide the answer. The Freeview signal is not due to go to full power before 2012 when the old analogue transmissions cease but this may be an alterative especially for anyone with an old Sky dish. www.radioandtelly.co.uk/freesat.html

Yesterday, for my neighbour, i purchased a complete saterlight system from B + Q all in a box for a once only buy and fit £99....(go on a wednesday, use your over 60`s card and get 10% off)
All you need for installation including a sat-finder box to set the new dish up. I hope to fit it tomorrow so will let you know how it all goes.
No need for stupid big "digital" ariels stuck up high on poles, freeview boxes that sometimes work or not.........
Over 220 tv & 100 radio stations....no fees...£99 or less...
Beam Me Up Spotty....

As an update on this, i never quite found the right sat group at first (freesat ?) but slightly re aligned it to sky (i think) but this was before freesat came live, so as its not my system, will have to go check on it all...

Both Freesat and Sky come from a satellite called Astra A lot of people so think the satellite is sky. Just point your sat finder to 28.2 deg east nd you'll find it. Did the £99 receiver include high definition? I'm waiting for that plus a hard drive before venturing into more expense !!

Ok J. with the kit came a sat finder, and looking at my dish as a start i locked onto a good signal with the new much bigger dish, but it must have been the hotbird group thats adjacent to the astra group. so i re aligned it to astra 2a`s good signal.. anyway, lady next door poped in today and said she has "loads" of channels... as far as i know, she does not have HD or hard drive storage in her unit.
The system from B + Q`s was called E L (electric link limited) a 60cm dish for use for BSkyB Digital Zone 2..

Thanks for that I'll think I'll wait a while before jumping in. I bet it was Eurobird. it's only 0.2 deg away. If you have a big enough dish the right receiver there are lots of sats and stations out there. Trouble is you need time

If you have a big enough dish the right receiver there are lots of sats and stations out there. Trouble is you need time or a big drive motor for the self seeking dish. my brother in law has such, along with a further 2 fixed at different groups of sats.. (flash s*d) funny story, a few years ago, someone well known to me was helping out in pirate radio. to avoid detection, the station was remote from the transmiter, linked by l n b`s from sat dish systems, as long as they were in line of sight......... worked very well i`m told.

Big dish and motor is the only way to go, but you need time to scan all those channels. It can take as long as a programme just to see whats on I don't think Sky would have got so big or greedy( I can't get over people paying to watch adverts! subs or the ads but not both please! ) if the motorised dish had been more common
