Meeting started at 10.00 am.
Chairperson’s Welcome
Maurice welcomed everyone and thanked them for attending the meeting. The meeting agenda was to decide how the Forum should proceed in the next coming year and to welcome new members.
Minutes
The minutes from the last meeting (9th Sept 07, Sydney House) were not received by all the members. It was agreed that the minutes shall be sent out again and agreed at the next meeting.
Maurice asked if this meeting time was convenient to all members.
Mick Masterson suggested the meetings could be held in the evening.
Friends of Brooklands
FOB’s was welcomed as new member to the forum, Mick Masterson introduced himself and gave a brief description of what FOB’s had achieved and outlined their goals for the future. He discussed the condition of the roads and drainage in Brooklands and Grasslands. He explained that FOB’s is pro-active and run on a voluntary basis only.
Library
Dan Casey spoke about the Jaywick library and was pleased to announce that so far the library has 360 members. He hoped that this number would grow to add to the long term viability of the library. He feels that the library is highly successful and provides a great meeting place where members have free access to computers.
Churches
Local churches are also eager to provide a supportive role in the community. The message the churches are giving to Jaywick is ‘we are always here’. Pastoral support can be very helpful to individuals at a low ebb.
Tendring District Council
Flooding: TDC is awaiting a report to emerge from the Environmental Agency in the New Year.
Inspectors
report: Due anytime. There will be a Council meeting in December 2007; the inspector’s report is final.
Still no more updates on the Master Plan.
Interaction Panel
• The seminar was successful, it included such workshops as employment and heath & safety.
• The business plan for Golf Green and Pier ward has been incorporated with the NAP assessment.
• The second news letter will be arriving soon.
Three wardens have been assigned to the area to provide more coverage and to ease the stress put on the local Police Force. The warden scheme is very important and highly successful. Often seen as less formal, the wardens are approachable figures on the streets.
There will be a board meeting to discuss the multi use games area behind the Resource Centre. Teen talk will be invited for their input on matters of child safety.
Margaret O’Dell would like Jaywick to move to Green Flag status which will provide extra funding for projects. Maurice applauded the effort and hard work that the Green Team had put into making Flowers Way a beauty spot instead of an eye sore. The Green Team will be partly responsible for accomplishing this status.
Cutting the trees back at Crossways has helped to prevent drug users, people hiding etc. The PCSO’s have confirmed that this has eased the situation.
Frobisher School
Mr Alexander spoke on behalf of Christine Watkins. (Head teacher)
Christine Watkins thanked the Interaction Panel for all the help they had provided throughout the year. Christine Watkins also thanked Mick Masterson for the trip to Herne Bay which was enjoyed by all.
The mini buses are ready to hire.
Youth Services
Youth services are hoping to be at work within the area soon, providing a large equipped bus once a week. It was agreed keeping the children occupied was a deterrent to criminal activities. Pastor David Bavister asked the Interaction Panel board if a venue within Jaywick could be allocated to help this cause. Mr Alexander offered the mini bus for use and stated that the bus is not being hired by them but used for its intended purpose. Youth Services is always looking for volunteers.
Guinness Trust
Nothing to report. Mr Alexander thanked the Guinness Trust for the use of the bus stop for Frobisher School.
PCSO’s
A Neighbourhood profile survey would allow the PCSO’s to find and target the main issues concerning residents. A regular surgery by PCSO’s will enable residents to go along and discuss problems in a safe environment. Confidentiality being the key concern.
Open Road
Maurice Alexander welcomed Open Road to the Forum.
Open Road introduced themselves and explained the support they offer to substance users. They provide holistic support to those who want to make a change in their lives. This encompasses all areas; housing, family, debts, after care and return to work. This is a high drug use area which will benefit greatly from this service. Open Road also provides educational talks on the dangers of drugs. They also provide a ‘ Needle Exchange ‘ in a bid to stop the transmission of blood born viruses. Different coloured syringes are available to minimise the sharing of needles. The Needle Exchange is designed to make peoples lives and the environment safer.
Gordon L. stepped forward and told the Forum his story. Mr L. is very thankful to Open Road and the life saving support they gave him.
‘Open Road works and it does save lives.’
Teen Talk support the under 18’s in similar circumstances and it is hoped they will receive more funding in the near future.
AOB
Mick Masterson suggested sending a petition to our MP about the drainage and roads in Jaywick.
Larry Warren (PCSO) was worried when he first heard he would be working in Jaywick but soon changed his mind. Larry Warren said this is a very safe environment and I’m very proud to work here, Jaywick is a wonderful community.
Next Meeting to be decided.
