 Intimidating Drivers
« Thread Started on May 21, 2009, 7:01am »

Every day, I have to drive along the seafront to work... we all know the road.. it's really long, it's really boring and the speed limit is 30mph.
And every day, I count at least 3 people that overtake me, and speed off without a care in the world.
Yesterday, someone even beeped at me and signed hand gestures even though all I was doing, was obeying the speed limit.
I just can't understand it... I know it's a boring road, and many times, you do want to go about 40mph, because it's an open road, and you can see... but, the speed limit says 30mph.. there's a camera there (which the speeders are all too quick to slow down for) so they must be aware of the correct speed to do... I just don't understand why they're always either almost on top of you, or overtaking... when it's a 30 road.
It makes me feel so intimidated, as a new driver.. and although everyone's telling me "oh, don't let them worry you, just go the correct speed"... when I'm getting beeped at and sworn at and everything else... just for doing the right thing... it does make me despise driving.
As I said.. I'm a fairly new driver, and I'm quite nervous at the moment anyway.
I've been taught the correct way to drive.. and although I KNOW I'm in the right... when so many people are intimidating you, it does make you believe you're wrong.

Does anyone else have that problem? Or am I the one that annoys you when you're in a rush to get to work in the mornings?
LOL!

You are not alone :)

30mph is 30mph. I get the tailgaters the beebers and intimidaters too. It took me a while to ignore them. But now I just think I worked hard for my licience and I'll not be pushed into going over the limit for anyone.

I'm totally with you on that... I had to take my test 6 times before I eventually passed... and because I worked so hard for it, there's no way I'm letting anyone intimidate me into going faster then I should be.
Thanks so much for the comment, and I understand there was another comment which has now disappeared... but, thankyou for that too.
It's nice to know that there are some decent drivers around.
:)
Anyway, I hope everyone's enjoying the lovely weather we're having.. and taking advantage of the beach before it gets packed.

Don't let these cretins bother you, concentrate on your own speed and direction and let them go their own stupid way.
If you get abused take their number and report it to the police, they will get dealt with eventually.
I have been driving since the 70s and have learned to ignore the minority of brainless scumbags that tear up the roads, they nearly always end up wrecking their own cars in the end.
You will find that the majority of drivers old and new take pride in their driving and are careful and courteous on the roads.

:) Thankyou so much for the lovely comments... I know they're not worth worrying about, and it is silly of me to allow myself to be intimidated by them.. but, it's not only annoying... it's also dangerous.
But yeah... you're totally right... it's usually their cars that would get flashed by the cameras or wrecked... but, it's just the amount of people that they put at risk by their selfish, dangerous driving... it's actually quite scary. lol

But... suppose there isn't much anyone can do about it... if they're gunna speed.. they're gunna speed.
I just curse everyone that overtakes me and hope they get flashed by one of those mobile speed vans that are sometimes just after the bends of that road.
That'll teach 'em!
